It’s been almost a year since I updated my blog…where did the time go! Apologies for being so slow in updating…
It’s been a really busy year and I’ve done lots of interesting jobs, but probably the biggest project was this oak Settle. My customer had bought it with the intention of restoring it herself. She had taken it apart but soon realised it was much worse than it first appeared having suffered from a lot of woodworm damage, so she contacted me to see if I could help. It needed quite a few replacement parts making and some new joints too as the old ones had been badly eaten, the end of one arm was also missing. The photo’s probably tell the story a little better…. This Windsor chair was damaged when the owner was transporting it and accidentally dropped it. Whilst it may look damaged beyond repair, it was one of those jobs where the damage looks worse than it actually was- in the end it was quite a straight forward repair.
My customer wanted a new leather fitting to his desk. The old one was pretty worn out- he asked for a replacement that had similar tooling to keep it looking as it did originally.
The old one came off easily enough and the new leather gave it a much needed refresh! This old and much loved chair was showing the signs of a hard life! Beneath the worn upholstery, it was clear the chair had previously had a cane seat as well as a cane back panel.
The upholstery was carefully removed and the holes from the tacks and staples filled. The chair had the old polishwork removed and was French Polished before finally being caned. After several months working on Engine Shed Lane in Skipton, I’m excited to be moving into a new workshop just a stones throw from my house in Silsden. The new address is 12a Aire View and I will be fully moved in by Monday 7th February!!!
