A little bit about me... |
In some ways I think I was always destined to become an Antique Restorer- as a young lad I always had a love of taking things apart and putting them back together, unfortunately not always successfully in those days! My name is Stephen Hamilton, I live in Silsden, West Yorkshire and I’m a professional antique restorer and French polisher. |
After leaving school I started working at Northbridge Antiques in Halifax and whilst I was there took a day release City and Guilds course in Cabinet Making. A couple of years later I moved on to Greenwood’s French Polishers (also in Halifax) and then in 1988 I started work at J. H. Cooper & Son (now Coopers of Ilkley Restoration). |
After working at Coopers of Ilkley for more than 30 years it was time for a new challenge, so in 2018 I started up my own antique restoration business -The Furniture Repair Shop. Initially I started out from a small workshop at my home in beautiful Silsden, with just my radio and Milly the dog for company! After a while it was clear I needed more space so I relocated to Engine Shed Lane in Skipton, North Yorkshire. After several months working in Skipton I was really fortunate to find a workshop close to my home, so in February 2022 I moved into my new workshop at 12a Aire View in Silsden. |
